Terracotta figured lanterns add colors to Olympics

Lanterns resembling a woman and a girl are on display in Beijing's Chaoyang Cultural Center on July 22, 2008.

Lanterns shaped like terracotta figures are currently on exhibition in Beijing's Chaoyang Cultural Center to celebrate the upcoming Beijing Olympics, News.cn reported on Tuesday.

The multi-colored lanterns are made from fiber reinforced plastics which give them vivid facial expressions. It took over 30 craftsmen four months to produce the 102 lanterns.

Besides a range of common terracotta figures such as soldiers and horses, replicas of children and women were also created for the exhibition.

The terracotta warriors -- located in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province -- is extolled as "The Eighth Wonder of the World."

The exhibition will move to Chaoyang District Olympic Culture Square on August 1.
